Our Lady of the Rockies

Our Lady of the Rockies is a 90-foot statue of Mary, mother of Jesus. The statue sits atop the Continental Divide. Construction was started in 1979 and work was completed in 1985. From June to September, visitors are invited to take a 2-hour tour of the site. The nondenominational tour is handicapped accessible and gives you breathtaking views of the surrounding areas.
The Berkeley Pit
The Berkeley Pit is a former open-pit copper mine and is currently one of the largest superfund sites. The old mine is one mile long, a half-mile across and about 1,780 feet deep and is filled with a lake of highly toxic water. Conservation efforts are under way and can be contemplated from the viewing platform. There is a small admission fee.
World Museum of Mining

Discover the fascinating history of mining at the World of Mining Museum. Sitting on 22 acres of land, surrounded by the Orphan Girl Mine, this museum features an authentic, reproduction of a mining camp from the 1890s. There are 35 buildings to visit and each exhibit artifacts from the early days of Butte.

The Copper King Mansion

The Copper King Mansion was completed in 1988 and is a 34-room Victorian mansion that was the home of William Andrews Clark, one of here "Copper Kings" that established the Montana territory. Currently, The Copper King Mansion is a bed and breakfast, but is also open for guided tours from May 1st through September 30th.

Granite Mountain Memorial

The Granite Mountain Memorial commemorates the deadliest disaster in metal mining history that took place on June 8, 1917. The fire that tore through the mine killed 168 men and lit the fuse for labor unrest that led to the massacre of unarmed strikers. The memorial was opened in 1996 and overlooks Summit Valley and the Continental Divide.
Continental Divide Trail
The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passes right through Butte and runs for 3,100 miles between Canada and Mexico. The legendary trail is easily accessible from Butte and offers breathtaking views for hikers and mountain bikers alike.
